June 18

If you happen to be at school prior to your Social 33 Diploma Exam Part "B", you might want to check out an exam that I have posted on the school network. You can find it in the X-drive of the school's computer network. Click on the picture below to see exactly what to do. You'll find the folder that you're looking for in the X-drive, the folder is called Social Studies 33 Review Exam. Once you open up this folder open the "quizmaker" file, and then you'll be able to test your knowledge of the course content. These questions are past Diploma Exam questions. Enjoy!

June 15

Hi everyone! I have posted your final marks outside my classroom. The class average on the final exam was 76%, which is an excellent class result. You obviously studied hard, and were rewarded for your efforts. It has been a pleasure to teach you all this semester. I may teach some of you again next year in Social 20, or in the future in a Social 30 or Social 33 class. If you ever want to pop in for a visit next year, you're more than welcome to, you know where I am. Have a great summer break.

I have posted your course based final mark in Social 33 outside of my classroom. This mark represents 50% of your final grade in the course, with the other 50% yet to be determined by your Diploma Exams. I hope that you had some success with your Part "A" exam yesterday. You still need to prepare for your Part "B" (multiple choice section). This exam is on Wednesday, June 27th at 9:00-11:30 a.m. in the Main Gym. If you want to write some practice multiple choice tests, you can probably track me down in my classroom, R4 or Room 108 (Social Studies Department office). I'm supervising the English 30-1/30-2 diploma exams the day before the Social 33 finals, but for the most part I should be easy to find. I really encourage you to take the time to review, and take practice exams, it will help you out a lot!

Today I moved the desks around a bit, into groups of four. At each set of desks I had a unit final, and you were to go back over the tests, and see what you remembered. I am posting the answer key to the practice final that we did in class yesterday in the comments section today, so please take that test, and check your answers! If you have any problems, please come see me, or post a comment here on the blog. Keep studying! Good luck on your Final Exam this Thursday!

I went through (as much as I could) a review presentation on the entire Social 33 course. I did get into Topic B, but not too far. I have sent this presentation to you already. I really recommend that you go through this entire presentation as a review. I will be available throughout most of the remaining days of school (expanded tutorials) if you need any help, or would like to try a past Diploma Exam. Good luck on both parts of your Diploma Exam!

If you missed class today, you definitely need to get all of the handouts that you missed. I also expected that you have finished the question booklet for Stories of the Century (the Post-Cold War World). I also went through the Social Studies 33 Diploma Exam Part "A", and what to expect this Thursday. Tomorrow, I will be doing a major review of the entire course. I'll try to get through as much as possible, but I may not get through it all. It is a presentation/lecture that I will be sending to you at any rate. I have already finished sending you the presentation that I sent you today, please check your e-mail. Please open up the second version of the presentation! Keep studying!!

Today, I split you into groups of three or four, and I gave you parts of a practice final to discuss and answer the questions, and explain the rationale behind the answers. I will be sending to you the practice final that we did in class this afternoon. Keep studying!!

For both Social 10 and Social 33 students:

Your Final Exam is a week from today!

After a brief Q&A session, I split into partners to work on a couple of sample practice final exams. We'll continue working on this tomorrow.
Here's that hyperlink comparing U.S. military spending with Oreo cookies as a visual guide: True Majority.

You continued working on the post-Cold War/Contemporary World by looking at the Persian Gulf War, Yugoslavia and other key events that have happened since the end of the Cold War. You will get time to work on this tomorrow.

June 6

We watched a couple of videos on the United Nations today, and then we moved on to the post-Cold War world. Please remember to bring Stories of the Century to class tomorrow.

We played a review game today in class, I will be sending that game of Jeopardy to you this evening. Please have a look at the "Double Jeopardy" round, since we didn't get to most of those questions today. Please remember your homework assignment tonight is to create 5 "burning questions" that you have about the Social 10 course. I will deduct 1% of your final grade if you don't complete this assignment tonight. That's how important I think the Q&A session is tomorrow.

Today you spent most of period preparing Jeopardy questions for tomorrow's review game. Please make sure that you send to me 7 Jeopardy style questions, with each question having a topic heading, and a rating of difficulty (100-500 points). Please send these questions and answers to my CBE e-mail address. When I receive these questions I will respond back to you.

You wrote your Cold War Unit Final in class today. If you didn't finish the first package on the United Nations in class today, then you have homework. We'll continue with our look at the United Nations tomorrow in class. You really need to start reviewing for your Diploma Exam!! It's definitely time to go back over past units and study, study, study!

June 4

Welcome to June! So begins the final push until the end of classes. Final Exams are fast approaching. Please make sure that you start reviewing all course material.

We tied up some loose ends by looking at Unit 52 in A history of the Twentieth Century textbook called "Detente and After". We also looked at the organization/structure of the United Nations. If you missed today's class, you will need to get these handouts from the folder on the side counter in the classroom. Please remember to study for your Cold War Unit Final, which is tomorrow.

We played a review game today which took most of the period. It is really important that you check your e-mail tonight, for a very special message.
