I went through a lecture today on the "Techniques of Dictatorship" which really also focused on the propaganda and indoctrination methods in Nazi Germany. We also looked at a short excerpt from "Triumph of the Will", Leni Riefenstahl's propaganda film from the mid-1930s that depicts the days at a Nazi rally in Nuremberg. If you want to learn more about Leni Riefenstahl, please read her obituary from The Guardian in 2003. I am sending you information about the White Rose student group as well today. I gave you a really important handout today on the Interwar Years. There are certain key events that occur between 1919 and 1939 which help contribute to the rise of fascist regimes in Germany, Italy and Japan. You need to study these key events very carefully because you will be tested on them on your Unit 2 Final Exam and your Final Exam. We watched Part 1 of the A & E Biography "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler", and as you watched this video, you should have been taking notes. We also watched "Make Germany Pay".

Welcome back from the Thanksgiving long weekend. I hope you enjoyed the weekend and didn't take in to much of the gobble-gobble. We covered a lot of territory again today. We looked at a side-by-side comparison of demand-side and supply-side economics. I have to find one more handout on this topic which I will give you tomorrow and it covers how each economic theory deals with a recession. We then looked at some background information on Russian history (I will send these notes to you tonight along with notes on Marx, Lenin and Stalin). We then watched a video from the BBC 20th Century History series entitled "Stalin and the Modernization of Russia". We also looked very quickly at different strands of socialism (utopian socialism, scientific socialism, democratic socialism).
